For sale is a rare vintage RCA 86-A1 tube compressor limiting amplifier. This predates the classic RCA BA6A and is a legendary compressor in its own right. This particular one is in excellent shape, tested and fully functional. It comes from Reid Shippen's studio here in Nashville TN (Grammy award winning mixer/producer), where he has recorded and mixed many great artists through this very piece. Reid had the unit 100% fully restored before bringing it in to us and it's ready to go for the next studio owner. Includes pictured copy of original manual with very detailed servicing notes and spare rectifier tube. Servicing costs were $3911 and included extensive electrical and cosmetic work done. Service work includes new tubes, tube sockets, recap, reworking solder and wire as needed, clean up etc. It now operates above factory specifications and sounds excellent like it should. The tech also performed two modifications. One is a balancing potentiometer for balancing the 6K7 tubes (similar to what a 86B and BA-6A would have). The other mod is a switch located behind the removable front panel. This switch allows 5 different release times from .125 to 2.5 seconds.
