A Limited-Edition Piece of Synth History
In 1970, the Minimoog Model D redefined modern music-making as the first portable, performance-ready analog keyboard synthesizer—bringing the Moog sound to artists worldwide. This tribute edition honors that legacy and the visionary spirit of Bob Moog.
Where Legacy Becomes Legend
A studio statement piece. A powerful, hands-on inspiration machine. A trusted songwriting companion that adds depth to studio recordings and emotion to live performances. This is the legacy of the Minimoog Model D.
Loved for its warm, analog tone and intuitive, straightforward design, this timeless synthesizer’s influence transcends genres and generations. Its distinctive basses, soaring leads, and classic filter character established the Model D as the archetype of what artists and listeners still imagine when they think of the synthesizer.
The Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D celebrates the essence of this instrument and Bob Moog’s innovative technology, preserving its iconic sound and soul.
A Legacy Lives On
What does it take for a single instrument to shape generations of music? For artists like Gary Numan, Jimmy Jam, and Mark Mothersbaugh, the sound of the Minimoog Model D was that catalyst. Hear firsthand reflections about the synthesizer’s impact from these icons and more influential voices that continue to shape electronic music today.
A Special Run of an Iconic Instrument
We designed this limited-edition production run with intentional details that commemorate Bob Moog's earliest synthesizer models. The instrument features a custom badge that uses a metal photo-anodization process, which harkens back to the modular panel graphics found on the System 55, System 35, and Model 10 synthesizers, as well as select early R.A. Moog Co. Minimoogs.
The instrument features a custom quartersawn oak wood enclosure, a unique back-panel decal, and an included SR Series travel case, along with 100% analog circuitry and all the modern functional enhancements from the instrument’s latest reissue.
Each Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D synthesizer is assembled by hand in our North Carolina production facility, and only 500 in total will be built by our small team.
Premium Build Quality
Hand-built by the Moog Music team in North Carolina, this instrument is made with high-quality components, a custom quartersawn white oak cabinet, a durable metal chassis, and a premium Fatar keybed with velocity and aftertouch support (via MIDI/CV).
A True Performance Instrument
Immediate hands-on control, dedicated knobs for every function, and a layout unchanged in spirit from the original make the Minimoog Model D an expressive, performance-ready synthesizer for artists of any genre.
Support for the Bob Moog Foundation
Here at Moog Music, we believe in honoring Bob Moog’s legacy and his innovations that continue to have a meaningful impact on today and tomorrow’s creatives. Whether that’s behind the scenes as we’re developing new instruments, in conversation with artists, through stories on social media, or in writing like this (to you, here and now), it’s at the heart of all we do.
The Bob Moog Foundation shares this perspective and mission to preserve Bob Moog’s contributions while inspiring the next generation of electronic musicians. Founded by Bob’s daughter, Michelle Moog-Koussa, the foundation is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that carries his pioneering legacy forward.
With each Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D sold, we’ll be donating $500 to the foundation to support their ongoing educational work in music, science, history, and innovation.
Legendary Moog Sound
The Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D preserves all the depth and character of the vintage Model D, introducing the classic Moog sound to a new generation of creatives—or reintroducing it to synth enthusiasts and musicians looking for new inspiration. It delivers the same unmistakable warmth, depth, and tone as the original Model D with modern enhancements and limited-edition details.
A Rare, Timeless Keepsake
Limited to just 500 units worldwide, the Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D is a rare and collectible instrument for players and music history enthusiasts alike. The design features classic Minimoog badges made using a metal photo-anodization technique on the front and rear panels that evoke the aesthetic of early Moog modular synthesizers, while a custom Bob Moog Foundation sticker on the rear panel marks this edition as a true commemorative release.
Key Features
100% Analog Signal Path
Featuring a discrete analog mixer, analog oscillators, dual envelope generators, and analog VCA, every element of the Model D is engineered for deep, dynamic sound. Its all-analog signal path makes this synthesizer a standout in today's studios and stage setups.
The Iconic Ladder Filter
The classic 24 dB/octave Moog ladder filter provides the unmistakable resonance and smooth cutoff sweep that defined the sound of the synthesizer. From round, warm bass tones to sharp peaks, the filter remains one of the most celebrated designs in analog synthesis.
Feature Enhancements
While faithful to the original 1970s design, the Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D includes modern enhancements like a dedicated LFO mode for Oscillator 3 and expanded modulation routing, a premium Fatar keybed with velocity and after-pressure, MIDI integration, and a spring-loaded pitch wheel. These additions allow for greater expression and deeper sound design while preserving the traditional front-panel workflow.
Modern Connectivity
This edition of the Model D integrates seamlessly into contemporary setups with MIDI In/Out/Thru, CV and Gate inputs/outputs, and an external audio input for processing other instruments through the legendary filter and amplifier section.
