From the manufacturer: "The Upton 251 microphone is a condenser microphone based on the classic Telefunken Ela M 251 which was produced by AKG from around 1960 to 1965. The original 251 is widely regarded to be one of the finest microphones ever made and is great for many recording applications. Our 251 utilizes our CK12 capsule, our T14 transformer as well as the original circuit design."
Retro Gear Shop personally visited Dallas's workshop in Florida to observe how these microphones are manufacturered, and it's a seriously impressive process. Most of the components are hand-machined and manufactured in-house from raw materials and hand assembled. It's rare to find a microphone company that does such a detailed process on their own (many other companies will source finished pieces and parts from various suppliers rather than making them in-house). This is a super sounding microphone, especially popular for vocals, with great build quality at a fantastic price. Contact us for the best possible price and to order your Upton 251 mic.
