For sale is a very rare vintage Ampex 400 "Buddy Holly model" reel to reel. This one is in excellent clean shape but may need some servicing / restoration. Excellent condition, especially considering its age. Our techs recently checked this over briefly, and our best assessment on functional condition: Powers up, motors run, but we couldn't get the machine to pull tape. The reels feel stiff. Inside looks all original, would likely need new motor capacitors and audio capacitors. We believe it is a 400C. We aren't 100% sure if we could service this fully or not due to parts availability and we are not experienced in servicing tape machines. We are not sure what the costs may be if we tried, so we prefer to sell this as-is with no warranties or guarantees. We got this from a famous singer-songwriter's studio collection. We've never seen one of these come up for sale before, extremely rare, especially in this kind of condition, don't pass this up.
