The Manley Steelhead RC Phono Stage has defined reference-level vinyl reproduction for over twenty years, combining exceptional cartridge matching flexibility with all-tube signal topology in a precision-engineered design. Hand-built in California, it features three independent phono inputs, continuously variable loading parameters, and ultra-low impedance White Follower output buffering to deliver transparent, dynamic vinyl playback with comprehensive system integration capability.
Precision cartridge optimization with comprehensive loading control
The Steelhead provides complete front-panel control over all cartridge loading parameters for optimal impedance matching. Two inputs feature selectable autoformer impedance loading from 25 Ohms to 400 Ohms for Moving Coil cartridges, while a third input offers resistive loading from 100 Ohms to 47 kOhms. A continuously variable capacitance control adjusts from 10 pF to 1100 pF in 10 pF increments, enabling precise optimization of frequency response and transient accuracy for any cartridge design without sonic compromise.
Direct amplifier drive capability with motorized volume control
The Steelhead functions as a complete analog system control center with dual output topology. A Fixed Output provides standard line-level connectivity to conventional preamplifiers, while the Variable Output features precision motorized NOBLE® volume control for direct power amplifier connection. The all-tube Variable Output maintains 75 Ohm impedance through White Follower buffering, enabling minimal-path signal routing that maximizes transparency and musical coherence.
Six-tube architecture with external power supply regulation
All-tube electronics employ six vacuum tubes: two 6922 dual triodes for gain stages and four 7044/5687 tubes configured as ultra-low impedance White Follower output buffers. This robust topology ensures wide bandwidth, extended dynamic range, and fast transient response while the substantial external power supply delivers superior regulation and exceptional noise floor performance. The included RF Remora remote control provides wireless volume and mute operation for modern convenience.
