For sale is a pair of rare vintage STC (later becoming Coles brand) 4105 Pressure Gradient Cardioid Moving Coil microphones. Estimated manufactured circa 1955. These include 2x Coles 4069 XLR to 3 pin adapter connectors for using with modern XLR cables ($150 value, not pictured in the listing but they are included). Due to the nature of how the adapters work, they are installed but cannot be easily disconnected (and thus the mics do not fit in the wood cases). The microphones are tested and sounded lovely on vocals, deep rich detailed mid-range tone, clear high end. Includes original boxes. Serial #1684, #1666. Listed price is for the pair. Very hard to find mics, don't miss out!
Here is a short demo video performance on acoustic guitar and voice. Recorded with a single vintage STC 4105 Pressure Gradient Cardioid Moving Coil microphone (estimated manufacture year 1955!) going through a vintage Telefunken v76m microphone tube preamp into a Lynx Aurora(n) converter. STC was a British company (Standard Telephones and Cables) closely associated with BBC engineers, most famous for their STC 4038 ribbon microphone, whose patents were later acquired Coles Electroacoustics Ltd in 1972 and designs continue to be made by Coles today.
